8:30am From 'The Fighter' to 'The Power of One' – Boxing in Movies. Workshop Stream 1

This workshop has been developed for those who just love their boxing combinations. Learn to construct basic to complex boxing combinations and what it means to have effective rhythm and flow in your punches. From 2 punches to 13 punches you will be putting together some of the most advanced boxing combinations made famous in movies such as The Power of One and The Fighter. See if they really work and if they can be used in your group boxing sessions or is it just Hollywood?

When building combinations for your clients it is important to understand the teaching dynamics behind boxing and how everything is based around the science and mechanics of the human body which can often be forgotten by fitness professionals.

An exciting and entertaining workshop this is one of Christian's favourite and most passionate presentations which will give you a greater understanding on the origins of boxing.

8:30am How to Kettlebell Swing to Clean. Workshop Stream 2 (BOOKED OUT)

The old saying goes “you can’t fire a cannonball from a canoe”. If the kettlebell swing is the centre of the kettlebell universe, then having a strong clean and rack position is the next vital stepping stone to being able to press heavy and as a progression to learning kettlebell jerks and kettlebell snatches.

  • A solid knowledge of vital kettlebell training safety procedures
  • How to train hip extension for back and knee health and athletic performance
  • How to employ bracing and neutral spine—for injury prevention, enhanced performance and optimal transmission of force
  • How to recruit the lat as a "core muscle" to improve the spine safety and glute strength
  • How to increase power with the biomechanical breathing match  
  • How to most effectively stretch the hip flexors to dramatically improve athletic performance, back health, and posture

10:15am "Got Metcon?" - Metabolic Conditioning with CrossFit Active Workshop Stream 1 (BOOKED OUT)

This practical session will follow the format of a typical group class at CrossFit Active, with blended elements of weightlifting, gymnastics and athletics. We will begin with technique and strength work and finish with high intensity functional circuits that will challenge all energy systems. 10:15am Putting the FUN into Exercise Adherence! Lecture Stream 2

Learn about the secrets of sleep and what actually happens to your body if you have too much or not enough of it.

There are many myths about what your hormones actually do in relation to sleep or lack of it which could be affecting not only your waistline but your day to day movements and energy levels.

This lecture will give you an insight into the various metabolic response patterns your clients may be experiencing and perhaps the reason as to 'why they are not losing weight'.

12:00pm Kickboxing for Fitness – The Developing Discipline. Workshop Stream 2 (BOOKED OUT)

Kickboxing for fitness has often been 'taboo' in most gym and PT environments due to its complex nature and aggressive approach. Done properly, Kickboxing is one of the most enjoyable and effective forms of exercise available to participants. Kickboxing is one of the few disciplines that incorporates full body compound movements to enhance the aerobic and anaerobic conditioning of the body.

This workshop will guide you through all the necessary formulas needed to construct safe and effective workouts without the risk of injury and intimidation. Utilising the principles of professional kickboxing training Sean Mclean will show you how simple it can be to adapt these methods into your personal training and group exercise sessions.

2:15pm Power Up the TRX Workshop Stream 2 (BOOKED OUT)

Combine the basic movements of the TRX and add a plyometric element to increase your power and sporting performance.

Explore a variety of programming options that can be tailored to a variety of sports, through power and multi planar functional movements.

Learn high skill moderate intensity workouts as well as high skill high intensity workouts utilising common strength equipment and gymnastic based modalities

You will learn the fundamentals of compound movements training to maximise your metabolic effect while increasing your muscular endurance.

These exercises have been divided into simple formulas which will help add variety and excitement to compound weight training while providing safe and effective results.
